Late Antique and Medieval Latin
Department of Classical Philology, Medieval and Neolatin Studies

The University of Vienna has a long tradition of scholarship in Late Antique and Medieval Latin as well as in Latin Patristics. The Institute for Classical Philology, Medieval and Neolatin is spread out over four different locations in the University Main Building. “Bereich Spät- und Mittellatein” is the area where Danuta Shanzer, Kurt Smolak, and the Late Antique and Medieval Latin Assistant have their offices (Universität Wien Hauptgebäude, Hochparterre 168-169) and where the Medieval Latin holdings of the Institut für Klassische Philologie are housed. But Christine Ratkowitsch (Hochparterre 249) is equally part of our group.  Our emeritus professors, Johannes Divjak and Klaus Zelzer, also form part of the community. We have close connections with the CSEL, now at Salzburg, through Dorothea Weber.
